How to Activating iPhone’s Security Features

This article is all about taking advantage of your iPhone’s security and privacy options to ensure your personal data stays that way — personal, for your eyes only, or for others you may choose to share your iPhone with. To access the settings that follow, tap Settings, and then tap General. I already Post one article about "How to Secure deletion of data from iPhone."
If you want to know how to save your smartphone then follow this post "How To Save Your SmartPhone"

Auto Lock

Locking your iPhone’s screen helps conserve power and guards against unintentional screen taps, like when you’re toting your iPhone in your pocket.

Tap Auto Lock and then choose the amount of time you want your iPhone to wait before it automatically locks the screen. Your choices range from one to five minutes, or you can choose Never, which means it’s up to you to remember to press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iPhone.

Even when locked, your iPhone can still receive calls, text messages, and inbound communications — unless you activated Do Not Disturb — and you can still listen to music or other audio.

Passcode Lock

Requiring a passcode to unlock your iPhone can help prevent others from viewing your personal data or making calls on your dime. To set it up, do the following:

1. Tap Settings ➪ General ➪ Passcode Lock ➪ Turn Passcode On.

2. Type in a four-digit passcode, and then type in the code a second time to verify your code. You can change your secret code anytime by tapping Change Passcode, entering your old passcode, and then entering a new passcode.

3. Tap Require Passcode and then tap Immediately if you want your iPhone to require your passcode whenever you unlock it. Or choose one of the time-out options if you want your iPhone to require your
code after the chosen amount of time has passed.

4. Tap Simple Passcode Off to use a more complicated passcode, such as an alpha-numeric combination.

5. Tap Siri, Passbook, and/or Reply with Message to the On position if you want these functions to work from the Lock screen. When Siri is accessible from the Lock Screen, security features such as the Passcode Lock are overridden and, therefore, compromised — even though your iPhone is locked, you (or someone else) can make a phone call via Siri.

6. Tap Erase Data On to protect your personal information in the event your iPhone falls into the wrong hands. Erase Data erases everything stored on your iPhone if the correct passcode isn’t entered after ten tries.

On GSM model iPhones, you can activate and change a PIN (personal identification number) to lock your iPhone’s SIM card (some SIM cards come with a preset PIN). When activated, you must type in the PIN code whenever you turn iPhone off then on again. But unlike the Passcode Lock feature, which
generously offers up to ten tries in the game of Guess Your Secret Code, the SIM Pin lock feature is less forgiving — after three failed attempts to crack the SIM code, unlocking the SIM pin may then require a unique Personal Unlocking Key (PUK) code to unlock your iPhone (which rightful owners may obtain by contacting their cellular carrier’s customer service department).

Restrictions

If you share your iPhone with another person (or you’re a parent or guardian who holds the keys to iPhone’s kingdom), you can allow or restrict access to apps and features, or block access to content, such as songs containing explicit lyrics, or movies or TV shows based on their MPA rating.

To activate and adjust iPhone’s restriction settings, tap Settings➪General➪ Restrictions. Tap the Enable Restrictions button and then type in a secret four-digit code, and then type in the code a second time to  verify your code. Tap the apps and features you want to turn off .

App icons for any apps you restrict disappear from iPhone’s Home screen. Although you’d think turning off access to a certain app such as Safari, for instance, totally blocks your iPhone from accessing web pages, that isn’t one-hundred percent true. Although the app icon disappears from the Home screen and browsing the web with Safari is therefore disabled, certain apps you may have installed on your iPhone may still access the web using their own web browser features. For instance, tapping a web page link that appears in the Facebook, Twitter, or Google apps opens those apps’ built-in web browsers to display the content of a web page link.

If you want to “hide” some of the pre-loaded apps that can’t be deleted from your iPhone, you may
be able to restrict them, which removes the app button from the Home screen. The app is still on your iPhone but you don’t see it.
